The Journey is a non-funded, not for profit project, that’s primary focus is to find and film people who are committed to creating a sustainable future. The project concentrates on the positive action that is taking place today, and how in the heart of these actions could be real solutions to global issues.
A Journeyman, equipped with minimal video-kit, a small amount of personal possessions and a bicycle, travels to different communities to find and record inspirational stories. The project connects with a broad spectrum of dedicated individuals who began with a vision and through self-belief; hard work and perseverance are making real impact in their communities.
The aim is to create a collection of short films from around the world that connect with a wide spectrum of individuals, communities and cultures. The project began in 2008, and has since traveled through the UK, France and is now located in Australia. As the project travels short films are uploaded that can be viewed on this website. The project invites collaboration, allowing citizens to contribute their films to the project with the long-term goal to create a feature length film from the combined content that will be released, to be viewed for free.
The project also aims to act as an example of strong environmental and humanitarian ethics. To resonate these ethics the project uses little money, limiting consumption down to what is truly necessary. It instead supports itself through an exchange of skills, resources and knowledge. It practices resourceful techniques, uses sustainable travel, and believes in the Spirit of Giving.
Volunteering is a crucial part of the project, the Journeyman volunteers with the communities she films, the project also volunteers by giving back the films to the communities and projects. Currently there is a small creative team involved, we all volunteer our time and work to the project.
The project documents the beauty and the possibilities within these practices to demonstrate what can be achieved with little money, but more by connecting and collaborating with people whilst upholding a belief and respect in the good of mankind and our world.
The Journey is an insight into our present condition, reflecting on global issues, asking the big questions and resonating a message of what is actually possible when it comes it comes to our ability reform our ideals and our lifestyle in order to make positive changes for our planet and the human race. It is a message of hope.
